Frequently asked questions about the WFBC Showcase Team

How is this team different from other AAU National Teams?

Traditionally, AAU teams are selected from a single year-of-birth age group. WFBC National and Regional teams will continue that practice. The WFBC Showcase Team will select the best players from four different age groups. WFBC hopes to merge its most talented and committed players onto a single team, playing at the highest level of competition.

Who can try out?

Any girl, regardless of age, eligible to play varsity high school basketball in 2008, can try out. That includes students graduating in 2008, 2000, 2010, and 2011.

How will the team be selected?

The Showcase coach will hold tryouts and will also attend U14, U15, and U16 tryouts to find the best possible players for the team.

Who will coach the team?

Coach Tom Watson and Coach Leland Moore.

Can players not attending a school in Western Fairfax County try out and be selected for the team?

Yes. Coaches will select the best players available.

In which tournaments will the team compete?

The team plans to compete in ten tournaments. The schedule will include some of the highest profile college exposure tournaments available - - Future Stars Showcases, Blue Chip Invitationals, US Junior Nationals, AAU Super Regionals, and others. A complete schedule will be available at tryouts.

Where and how often will the team practice?

The team will practice at east twice a week at schools in Western Fairfax County.

Can I participate in a spring sport and still play on the team?

Yes. However, the Showcase Team is primarily designed for high school players totally committed to playing basketball at the highest level of competition. Players must attend all possible practices and games. Absences must be pre-arranged and cleared by the coaching staff.

How much will it cost?

Showcase team players will pay approximately $850 for five months and more than 50 games of basketball. That fee includes uniforms, equipment, first aid supplies, gym fees, AAU registration, and other direct costs to WFBC. Team travel expenses for overnight trips are not included. Installment payments are also available. Fees are non-refundable and not pro-rated.

Why is the Showcase Team more expensive than other WFBC teams?

The Showcase Team will play more games and compete a month longer than other WFBC teams. Additionally, entry fees for college exposure tournaments are often two-three times more expensive than other tournaments. The WFBC Showcase Team remains less costly than similar teams with most other AAU organizations.
