TRYOUT SCHEDULE

Showcase and U15/16 will have two tryouts scheduled.  U11 through U14 will have four tryouts scheduled.  (coaches may announce additional tryouts -- please continue to check the web page to stay up to date on all WFBC events).

PLAYERS SHOULD ATTEND AS MANY TRYOUTS AS POSSIBLE FOR THEIR AGE GROUP

The main portion of the National team evaluations will occur during the first three tryouts for each age group (U9 through U14) so players should make every effort to attend on those days.  U15/16 and Showcase will occur over a two day period -- Naturally, players are highly encouraged to attend every tryout for their age group. ALL Teams will be named near the beginning of the LAST Tryout for their specific age group.

IMPORTANT:  Players MUST BE prepared to make a financial commitment at the time of selection.  Failure to make that commitment will result in losing a position on the team.  All financial commitments made on player selection day are NON-REFUNDABLE.

TRYOUT FEES AND MEMBERSHIP FEES

Basic WFBC fees for all teams EXCEPT Showcase cover:

  1. Player uniforms
  2. AAU membership
  3. Entry into 8 tournaments (Due to cost, some Showcase Events may count as two tournaments)
  4. Gym Rental Fees
  5. WFBC administrative costs
  6. Fairfax County recreational fees
  7. Team Practice Equipment

Fees DO NOT include cost of travel expenses and coaches' travel expenses (WFBC limits player costs for coaches' expenses to two coaches on any given trip).  WFBC fees do not cover membership to any organization other than AAU -- these costs will be additional costs and will be divided evenly among all members of the team).

The WFBC fee structure for the 2008 season is as follows:

(ALL fees should be made through a check made out to WFBC)

TRYOUT FEES:    $25

REGULAR MEMBERSHIP:    $600 ($590 if paid in full on the day of selection) **

PLEASE NOTE:  There will be an additional $75 reduction in fees for players able to use uniforms from the 2007 season (must be the 2007 style uniform).

SHOWCASE MEMBERSHIP:    $ TBD

** Some teams may elect to play in more than 8 tournaments -- the Regular Membership Fee does not cover the cost of those additional tournaments,  Coaches should have a complete schedule available at tryouts (along with any additional projected costs).

Payments for all teams (other than showcase) shall be made using one of the two options:

  1. In full on the day of selection (this option will provide a savings for most players)
  2. $450 on the day of selection followed by the balance due on 1 April, 2008 -- players will not be allowed to participate in any tournaments beyond this date if this fee has not been submitted..
  3. ALL WFBC Membership fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and not PRO-RATED.

NOTE:  Any players with a delinquent fee from a previous season will be required to pay all outstanding WFBC fees as well as 2008 Membership fees IN FULL on the day of selection.  ALL balances for current year (2008) memberships must be paid by 1 April.  Players will not be allowed to participate beyond that date if fees have not been paid.  Anyone unsure about previous balances should contact the General Manager prior to tryout dates.

Families with financial difficulties should contact the General Manager to discuss possible options available to the player and the family to obtain a Regular Membership.  We do not want financial difficulty to hinder a player from realizing opportunities provided by this organization.

PLAYING "UP"

We often have questions about "playing up."  We encourage ALL players to try out in their respective age groups.  This year, with the new age determination dates, most players will have the opportunity to play with their classmates.  However, on RARE occasions, a player may exhibit ELITE skills that will allow her to play in an older age group.  Players in this category should read our policy regarding playing up.

WFBC Policy regarding "Playing Up"

Athletes who desire to "play up" MUST make a formal request to the General Manager (email).  The request should include the parent's name, the player's name, the player's date of birth, the player's experience level and a brief explanation of why the player should be considered.  If approved, the General Manager will provide a schedule and instructions that the player MUST follow in order to be considered for an older age group.  Once the player attends a tryout at the higher age level, the higher age group National coach can select that player for the higher age group National team if the player is clearly evaluated in the top 5 or 6 players in that group.  If a player does not demonstrate abilities to perform well in the higher age group, the player will be moved back to their actual age group.  Special circumstances may also provide players with the opportunity to play up on a Regional team, but this will be discouraged in most cases.

If there is a conflict regarding where a player should be placed, the WFBC General Manager will make the final decision regarding that player.
